Motor Vehicles: Seatbelts are compulsory in BC. Motorcyclists must wear helmets and children
under 5 years must be secured in infancy restraint systems. You must have a driver's license to
drive in Canada. If you rent or buy a car, please drive carefully, especially on mountain highways.

Electricity: Canada uses 110 volts, alternating current.

Emergencies: For fire, ambulance or police services, call 9-1-1.

Smoking and drinking:
Vancouver has strict non-smoking bi-laws. It is illegal to smoke in any public buildings, including
restaurants, pubs and nightclubs. You must be 19 years old to purchase cigarettes.
The law in BC prohibits the sale of alcohol to anyone under 19 years of age. 2 pieces of identification
(including your passport) may be required for entrance into nightclubs and pubs. BC has very strict
anti drinking and driving laws.

What are the climate and average temperatures in Vancouver?
Vancouver has probably the most comfortable weather in Canada.
It is one of the few places in the world you can ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon!
We have mild temperatures year-round. Summers average 23-28 degrees celcius while winters
average 5-10 degrees celcius. Although it is rare to see snow in the city, the local mountains
(within 1hour of downtown Vancouver) have skiing and snowboarding from December to April
and Whistler is only 2.5 hours away!
